It was early 2023 when I met with my pastors to talk to them about writing my next book. I believed I was finally ready to put pen to paper and share with others what the Lord had done in my life. After eight years of psychological addiction to an antidepressant, the Lord taught me that anxiety and depression weren’t illness I had, but rather they were things I did–thoughts and behaviors in which the Word of God commanded me not to engage. More to the point: I hadn’t been sick all those years. I had been sinning.
My pastors encouraged me to start writing, but not with a view of producing and publishing a book. Their counsel to me was simple. “Just write.”
For the next year, that’s what I did.
The Process
I finished the first draft of the book in December of 2023. For the few months, my pastors, other members of my church family, biblical counselors, and the pastors of several other churches read the manuscript. Meanwhile, I ran the manuscript through the editing process.
Here we are today, 18 months into this effort, launching the OvercomingDespair.com website and releasing my book, “Overcoming Despair: The Battle You Are Fighting Has Already Been Won.” Soon, Kindle and audio versions will also be available.
My hope is that “Overcoming Despair” will serves as an encouragement to Christians, a useful tool for pastors and biblical counselors, and a means for lost and hurting people to find hope in Jesus Christ.
The Purpose of the Website
This website, while a vehicle for making my book available to you the reader, is much more than that. Here I will:
- write more on the subject of anxiety and depression.
- share testimonies of other Christians who are winning similar fights by the grace of God.
- take time to interact with those of you who may have comments or questions about the book, or anything else pertaining to the Christian faith.
- provide sound teaching and encouragement from pastors and other biblical counselors.
- point visitors to other trusted, Christian resources (books, blogs, podcasts, etc).
- reach the lost with the gospel.
While I do hope you will read my book, whether you do or not you are welcome here. If I can be of any encouragement to you, or if my church family and I can pray for you, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
And with that, I welcome you to the Overcoming Despair website. Thank you for visiting.
